EPA* PFAS rulemakings – 2026 Unified Agenda

Home / PFAS Regulations / EPA PFAS rulemakings

The federal Unified Agenda provides a snapshot of regulatory actions and anticipated timelines from all federal agencies. Below, we highlight U.S. EPA’s PFAS-related rulemakings and the target dates listed in the agenda. These dates reflect estimates at the time of publication—not firm deadlines—and may shift as rulemaking progresses. Some dates shown may therefore have passed without a proposed or final rule being published.

ANPRM – Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking
NPRM – Notice of Proposed Rulemaking

Long Term Actions:

Future designations of PFAS under CERCLA

Potentially adds additional PFAS as Hazardous Substances under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act.

* USDA and FDA have no PFAS-specific items on the 2026 Unified Agenda. This covers formal rulemaking only — it doesn’t preclude either agency from taking
non-rulemaking executive actions on PFAS, such as guidance, import alerts, or determinations outside notice-and-comment.

** FDA must align its bottled water standard with EPA’s drinking water rule for the same contaminant. If this item or the rescission above is finalized, FDA would
likely need to revisit its bottled water PFAS standard (21 CFR 165.110) — not yet on FDA’s own agenda.
